Gold detectors need a high frequency to detect small nuggets. The MXT has this- it operates at 14Khz. So from the start the MXT can be used for nuggets, coins and relics. The Terra X-70's frequency depends on the coil you use. The coils available are the 3kHz, 7.5kHz and the 18.75Khz. Low frequencies 3 & 7.5 are better for coins/relics but unsuitable for nugget hunting. Most coin detectors operate at very low frequemcy which is best for deep coins. You have to have the 18.75kHz coil for nugget hunting(some dealers have a bundle package). So the MXT can be used with all coils for nugget hunting while the X-70 can be used for prospecting only with the 10" DD 18.75kHz coil. You see the emphasis? MXT for prospecting(14kHz) and the X70 for coin /relic priority(3 and 7.5kHz with only one 18.75kHz coil)?

With the wide range of coils for the MXT it is going to be more suitable for prospecting. With the low frequency coils of the X70 it is going to be more suitable for coin hunting. Which is deeper I don't know? My X-5 operates at 19Khz and has incredible depth for coins.
