There is gold in Maryland. Gold was discovered in Maryland in 1849 near sandy springs in Montgomery Co. It was in crystalline rock near the great falls of the Potomac. Gold is found in the potomac from great falls to the Cabin John Bridge. Good luck , Frank

If you go across the river to Virginia there is a small creek, Bulls Neck Run, there were gold mines there.

If you follow a line just below the "fall line" south you will find that they were finding gold just below the fall line all the way down to Richmond. Just south of Rt7 a friend of my brother found a nugget that almost weighed a gram near the Dranesville tavern

About 30 years ago they were doing some kind of construction on the river, where they were blocking off sections. The construction guys were getting dirt out of the crevices and panning the gold out of it after work.
