Hello,

I have been looking at detectors and am really intrigued with the idea of putting my own together; I don't know if anyone is familiar with these kits from Bulgaria - the crazy star I, II, and Sniffer?

Pricing is cheap and the youtube video's seem impressive for discrimination with a PI detector.

Thoughts? ???

Is it just the guts? What do you do for a coil?

Where is a link or address?
Have you seen this one. I have been looking at the Hammerhead PI.

they are here; I am hesitant to purchase as I cannot find a single review of any of these on the web. Geo Tech forums has a few guys that talk about purchasing them but they never updated after receiving - so who knows. I was also thinking about the hammerhead.

I built a hammerhead about 6 years ago. I bought the bare circuit board. It's not for the faint of heart. I'm an experienced electronic tech. It took me a while to build it and the first one didn't work very well. I bought a couple more boards, I did a better job and they work great. Now it's back in the shop for a tune up. I would HIGHLY recommend that you have a scope.

One has a 10" coil and the other has a 3 foot coil on wheels.

I asked the guy in the UK that sells the boards if he would make one up for me but he said to check with geotech.
I have no scope, but can solder.
I was going to ask at geoteck if someone would build me a board.
If I can find someone with a scope here in Phoenix, and a great electronic guy to work with, I would do it.
Here is the guy in the UK.
Maybe Rob or you could take a look and see if anything is worth it.
He has something for a surf pi also.

Sven at PROJECTS PI produces the Mirage PI. This is a modified Hammerhead available from PCB to completed unit. Sven is quite helpfull and worth contacting.

Go over to Ebay and put in Pi metal detector in the search bar and see what you get.
The kits are there for $49 and up.

Sure will - the idea is to turn this thing into a nugget finding machine - if the discrimination works as well as I have heard it is possible. Going to couple it with either a Minelab or Garrett pulse induction coil as from what I have found in my research, people who build their own coils tend to have a lot of issues. I'll probably build a 3' coil myself for fun (not nuggets) and then purchase the factory made PI coil at 6 or 7" so I can hit on some lil nugs' (hopefully). Going to sabotage a few other detectors in the process. It will be interesting and I'll take a lot of pics and make a thread for it eventually.

Roadrunner; I am actually going to just buy the Crazy-Star 1 after looking and throw in a potentiometer for sound myself.

Cool. The ones at ebay I told you about where for the surfmaster.
I could not get a straight answer from the seller if they would work on the ground.
But with a manual ground balance I would think they would.
I am going to ask a few people on here in a pm though.
I will be watching for updates or get back here when I dop something.
The kit is only $49.
And for $79 you get a coil also.

I see a volume knob and threshhold knob.
Do you have a delay knob?
Send me a pm on the cost and what it contains.
Do you have a video of it working and actually finding items at a certain depth.
