FedEx delivered my new Nokta FoRs Gold Pro Pack this morning,
and since then I've taken my time going through each and every
item included.

This is some piece of kit....8-)

I'm very impressed with the manner in which it all was packed
into the case, and all the components fit neatly into their respective
compartments. Not sure if I'll ever backpack the detector, but the
case includes backpack straps, and after walking around the yard
with it on I found the pack to be very comfortable.

The fit and finish on all components is excellent.

I'll take some pics tomorrow as I assemble it, and then plan to
try it out in my driveway, as I'm sure there's at least some junk
to be found. I can also make a test field with coins, etc. to see
how it reacts at various depths. Would like to go for visit to
the local high school and do some coin shooting, but it is supposed
to be over 90F. [again] here tomorrow.

Think I'll spend the rest of the day planning that trip down to
the Mother Lode country...:occasion14:

I had a similar incident with my old gb pro. Turned out that the coil was leaking and some water got in and was faulting the coil. And I have heard of other people having similar conditions with other detectors but was usually related to a faulting coil.

Edited this post, as I've identified the issue, and don't want to
leave incorrect info which could sway others decisions.

Hey all,

I've deleted the comments I made in the posts above, as I have
identified the issue.

Problem: Fluorescent and HID lighting.

It first went nuts at the local HS, right after the lights came on. At
home here, I tested it last night in my gravel driveway, but do have
fluorescent lights on my house, plus an HID lamp over my garage.
There are also a couple street lights, but both are over 500' from
the front of my house.

Went out this morning and fired it up in the driveway, and it purred
like a kitten. I thought...:icon_scratch: So, I took it to a former OATS
(Open Area Test Site) that was used for EMC testing in the
past, as it is one of the most RF quiet spots in the US. Again, not
a peep of EMI. Then went up into the hills to poke around some
real ground, and again, not an issue.

Fluorescent and HID lighting will radiate EMI like crazy, especially
when not fully grounded. I just hadn't expected it to become
an issue considering the distance I was from the actual light
fixture, but the FoRs is highly sensitive, and near-field or far,
it was causing the problem.

Drama over...now back to our regular programming...:occasion14:

Glad to hear dizzy. I was gonna ask you if you were near some bad emi during the issue. But I figured you already eliminated that. Usually if you have a detector that is chirping like crazy just holding it still, it normal relates to a coil connection prob. Or internal coil prob. Glad to see things are good for you again. Now you can go out and find some fors treasures.
Good luck
