Wow that's sulphur? Cool it looks like a fungus. I've never seen that before. Nice gold! I found an almost twin to that quartz specimen. I love it when this amazing stuff comes out of the ground

youre killin me!!!! its a tree mushroom. aka chicken of the woods. last year i came across thousands of king boletes. i did not pick any for 2 reasons. i was late, and it was in keswick. the pollution from the smelters, and mushrooms absorb toxins. it cleans the ground, but i will not eat anything that lives in that area. that includes deer, duck, turkey

yeah, the hoards of trash on the bank was ominous, but there was so much exposed bedrock i gave it a go. i was extremely surprised how silent the bedrock was. which was a sign it has been hit very hard. which means sorting thru the trash was worth the while. and boom! third target was gold. i was not expecting that.

Hahaha you got me! I kinda thought it was a mushroom lol yeah that spot you went to has been hit very hard. I've been there a lot. I used to pan that creek and get decent fine gold and an occasional picker. I found that 2.5 gram nug in one of those tailings piles on the side of the creek.

thanks lanny, had some of it for dinner, it was delicious. ill let you know if i live through it :laughing7: nice thing about redding is there are almost no mushroom pickers. on the coast a mushroom patch is as sacred and secret as a nugget patch

Nice finds beekbuster. Yah, the mushroom grounds over here on the coast get hit pretty hard. The masutake, chanterelle and such in the hills and the king boletus along the coast. I find some tremendous boletes in the pines/sandune areas right close to the ocean. One slice will cover a hamburger.

my inlaws live in annapolis, hoards of matsutakes there. some chantrelles, which are my favorite. RELIC HUNTER---make 100% sure its the same. never pick them off a conifer or any evergreen. oaks only..... dont eat the base, just the supple part. white wine and butter. not too much butter. saute til tender. if in doubt-- dont eat it. but it is one of the beginner mushrooms.
