Road trip but where?

Kind of a silly question but here goes. Detecting for gold is a bucket list item for me since we don't live close to any place to do it; are there any public or pay-per-day, etc. sites in the lower 48? Live near the bottom of that but wife and I are planning a road trip soon so figured maybe I'd drag along the Infinium before it gets too old (and me too.) We already went to the Crater of Diamonds a few years back so we are fully acclimated with getting skunked. It was a fun trip though.

On the East Coast, Dahlonega Georgia is probably your only bet. Several places including Crisson's Gold Mine (a real gold mine) let you pan.
