    Slag or ore?

    My dog hit on this rock very strong last time I had him in mountains w/ me. Magnet doesn't stick to it. I thought it was slag or ore,Don't really know but when I cracked it open and used magnifier I can see small specks of gold thru out it. and idea's?

    Iron Pyrite would be very common in with other ores. You might need a pretty good magnet to stick to low grade stuff, at least one of those 12 pound picker types.

    Rub it against a streak plate(porcelin tile) and see what color streak it leaves. Post the result here and I can help you identify the mineral. From the picture it is hard to say for sure

    It just leaves a light gray streak that wipes right off. It really looks like it was cooked down or refinded.
    The gold specks arent pyrite or really dont look to be. Did I mention it was right near an old mine.

    Do you know the name of the mine? What county and state did you find it. Looks like a mineral specimen but too many possibilities.

    I don't know the name of the mine and it might be from a commercial dredge also. Its in colorado gold contry up by central city

    Did my share of highbanking on Clear Creek.However, I made far more money from the tourists playimg poker in Blackhawk than gold in the creek.

    The gold is there you just gotta know where to look. I had an oldtimer tell me a few secrets. He used to work on a commercial dredge up there when he was a kid.
