    XT18000 Minelab and the Beach

I bought a XT18000 to look for small gold and coin shoot on Florida beaches but it doesn't cancel out the salt. Gives nothing but false signals and has no depth , I'm suprised and disappointed. Guess it'll handle mineralized soil and hot rocks but not the wet sand at Daytona Beach. Anybody have any feedback on this problem?

Sounds like you need to run up the sensitivity or combo ground balance. What controls does it have. I cant believe that unit wont tune up for the sand and salt. ? Did you find an old manual or find any instructions for it.

Contact someone at Minlab USA. The 18000 will do a fair job in the wet sand. But keep it out of the surf as the coil box is not waterproof and the searchcoil is "water-resistant." The 60kHz may be your problem, try
the lower (about 7 kHz) and keep it in groundbalance. Keep the sensitivity about half way and then make adjustments to smooth out the threshold. If all seems well, try the 20kHz setting.
