Signals from older coins

Have had some pretty good luck in the 8 months I have been detecting (several indian heads, several mercs, silver quarters and two walking liberty halfs), but I am still looking for some of the older coins the Barbers and the Seated coins. Can anyone tell me if these coins give a slightly different signal than some of the more modern coins that I have allreadybeen finding, I know that with my machine the Indian Heads bounce back and forth between screwcap and penny. By the way I am using a Whites XLT.

Trust me as long as you listen to your detector and they are there you will find them, and yes older coins in most detectors does sound a bit different than clad (tis called music to our ears). But no kidding just keep on detecting and listening and digging having fun.

ll I know is, when the signal sounds good and I dig it, and it is silver, I don 't remember what a clad coin sounded like. I think the only way to tellfor sure is to check them side by side and compare, and then if your under 50 yrs. old you may be able to remember that exact same sound, just maybe. HH Scotty

When I detected heavily back a few years ago, I could tell the difference between silver and clad and older pennies and the newer ones. I used a Whites spectrum at the time. You have to go by the sound, not the meter.

I still use the whites spectrum and the sound does it for me.
