LOL..no not pulse induction... POISON FREAKIN' IVY! >:( I was out detecting a farmhouse last weekend that was grown over by the woods. I was wading through the PI but being careful (yeah, right). Normally I don't have any reaction to poison ivy but early week I had a couple spots on me. Well, no big deal, I've lived through poison oak/sumac/ivy many times before. Suddenly on Thursday though it seemed as if my spots had spread like wildfire! :icon_scratch: Then I remembered... :tongue3: Tuesday night I was out in the garage messing around with the detector to set up a good belt for hip mounting.. Messed with the coil a bit..the wire.. So in a Homer Simpson moment I had to say DOH! :o

Just thought I'd share the misery and hopefully help somebody else!

DOH is right.....lol

I went detecting at a house foundation I hit before...same time as last year, before the weeds took over.....and just like last year...got poison ivy. No gloves....DOH

It's worse this year......several hours of detecting, getting home to wash my hands...turned the water on and you know that feeling you get after not going to the bathroom for several hours then suddenly you hear water running....... :BangHead: :help:
I won't say anymore.....

Like you that stuff never bothered me until one day while digging out an old bottle dump.

That night I had some spots on my face and by morning I looked like a burn victim.

My head was breaking open and bleeding--I was a mess!

I went to ER and finally ended up going to a specialist who prescribed the strongest meds possible. Finally it turned and I recovered in about 3 weeks.

I fear that stuff today.

once you get into it, it'll be on your MD your shoes, gloves, digger. basically everything you used and touched it with will have it on there, so clean everything. be careful around your vehicle too, it can transfer there as well.
the oils in PI will stick to anything.
I had to get steroids from my doctor to get rid of it, and it still took 2 weeks

Good advice for sure! I've used Zep cleaner on the detector-it's a biodegradable degreaser and works real well! I also hit my shovel and digger and anything else that might have gotten the oil on it. I'm also trying to memorize what the other poison plants look like. Funny thing is that I've waded through huge patches of poison ivy when pig hunting and never had any reaction! Makes me wonder if I suddenly developed an allergy to it or if maybe it was sumac or oak.. Either way I'll sure be more careful next time!! IOL...that means ITCHING out loud!

3 or 5 leaves let them be.
I'll bet when you get done pig hunting though you wash everything, right?

That's what I'm thinking.. Also, it could be another poison something-or-other that I got into. There were other plants out there that had oily looking leaves and I remember thinking that I needed to brush up on my ID skills! Hopefully this stuff is protecting something really good though! I know one thing I found that I'd like to bring back is some way old-time fencing. It has the posts like a hurricane fence but the panels are very decorative and woven into patterns. Way cool! I'll post pics of that when I can. This Thursday is my next detecting day!
