I listened to Dan's Podcast about accessories the other night and he mentioned that Harbor Freight has a pinpointer for about $17.00. :o I'm fortunate enough to have a Harbor Freight nearby, so I stopped in after work yesterday and picked one up. It's a "CEN-TECH HAND HELD METAL DETECTOR". It doesn't appear to be very rugged, but for $17.00 you can have a back up (or two). I paid several dollars for a pinpointer that looks very similar to this one, and I've already had to take it apart once to clean the contacts. >:(
This would be a great unit for someone to purchase if they've never had a pinpointer, but wondered what the fuss is all about, or for someone who has an expensive one that just died. (Hard to justify $100+ for a new pinpointer this close to the holidays.) I'm going to take it on a test run over the weekend.

Happy Hunting!

I've used mine for a few months and I like it fine. Here's a link to it:

And you can see me actually using it here:

If you'd like to listen to the show mentioned above, just go here and scroll down to program number 005:

http://thetreasurecorner.com

Click the pink button and it will play on your computer. NOTE: The Tinytec pinpointer mentioned in the program is no longer available. The Tinytec company was a one-man operation, and health problems have forced him to close up shop.

Hope this helps!

We need a stage name for you.

I am thinking "Dirty Screwcap Blues Hughes", but that is just one suggestion.......

You're back... we've missed you.

I have been using one now for 2 years. It works great. It will signal within an inch and a half of metal. It has a light on it and the batteries last forever.

The cap at the end popped off but I glued it back in and then put electrical tape around it and it works just fine.
