Saw this on another forum:

When I was 10 years old (1962) I put my life savings ($8 in silver certificates) into a clean metal coffee can and buried it in our backyard.

A month later I reconsidered my decision and tried to dig it up. Maybe I wanted some candy or a comic book. Life was pretty simple back then.

I dug and I dug. And I dug some more. I never found the can. But I learned a lesson.

3 Davis Lane, Stony Brook, New York. Backyard. Please note that the new owners of the property may not appreciate you digging up their backyard. Good luck!

it happens.

still didn't get to the one up here yet.
Guy Told me he & His Brother Buried Jar of silver coins
Forgot about it, now lives there again & Can't remember where in his Yard.

Tried once while he was away,
but his 2 giant dogs and neighbors
giant dogs kept barking making concentration
impossable. I gave up 10 minutes later.
still trying to catch him home.

Ohhh The dogs. Yeah that is a major distraction.
Depending how deep they buried it too you may need a 2 box detector.

buried as kids in the '70's
so doubtfull it's deep.

being 2 Kids one may have dug it & Not told the other.
told him to ask his
brother, havn't found out if he did yet.

their father had one of the RED BARRON Bounty Hunters
which was one of the First VLF detectors.
Also possability he dug it. Parents Deceased.
& being the Jar probably stood Upright
and if it had a Tin Lid the Detector in Disc may have Ignored it.

yard also contains alot of Coal Ashes.

being 70's May not have been Silver Either.
could have been Clad.

alot of reasons this would be an Absolute Surprise to find.

BUT You just never know.

just fill a jar with coins, even clad and airtest it. I bet your detector can hit it at 2 ft of more. That is a lot of metal!
