Definetly not the hardest to find, a 20 cent coin or a half dime would be much harder, actually bordering impossible :D

Not found with a metal detector, this one came out of a cabinet I bought at auction. I think someone used it as a shim! The rim near the eagle's beak looks hit on from the side. This is one of my favorite coin designs, next to Morgans.

I was thinking I had found 4 but not sure, I know where 3 came from and can't find the 4th

One was from a Civil War campsite on Folly Island near Charleston, One from Battery Park in
Charleston, and one from Daniel Island outside of Charleston... the fisrt 2 were in really good shape,
the last one you could just see a silauet of the Eagle, but since I already had 2 or 3 I knew what it
was...
That was back in 1992 93 time period..
Just so much stuff has been taken from the ground... not much left anymore...

Actually it was 4 total, as there were 2 in battery park. one was poor condition.
But I've never gotton a 3 cent piece, with or without the silver center.
I have a few shield nickels, one with Rays, a 2 cent piece, but no 1/2 cent piece.
several seated dimes, and half dimes and 1 seated quarter.. (university if SC Columbia)
and one bust half dime, displayed here last year...

Never have found one detecting, still haven't found any indian heads yet either...my brother has two 1858 flying eagles both varieties, small and large letters, they are pretty worn down though but the date is plain on both.....they were passed down to him by my father, along with about a half book full of indian heads, i think that my great uncle gave them to my dad

some of the indian heads in the book are in amazing condition...sure wish they were mine, but I wasn't interested in coin collecting when my dad gave them to my brother....at least I can admire them all the same

I must be really lucky because mine look better than these, except the one from the Island..
But the one from Folly was dug in sand, and came out beautifully, also one from a park in Charleston came out beautiful,
the 3rd from the park had similar pitting like these and the Island one is almost worn smooth like the first one..
I will try to scan mine for some pics..
thanks
