Detector(s) used
Fisher Gold Bug Special Edition
A few years back I got bit by the gold bug. Up to now I've only panned & sluiced, but just purchased a Fisher Gold Bug Special Edition to try my hand at detecting too. I'm practicing with the machine and reading (and re-reading) the manual to master it. I think I'm getting the hang of it. My only previous experience with metal detecting was as part of a team of volunteers, supervised by a Nat Park Service archeologist, detecting and digging on a Civil War Battlefield National Park. I was paired up with another volunteer with a detector; I manned the shovel. Over two summers, and about a two weeks total time, our group unearthed several hundred artifacts and mapped each with GPS. I enjoyed it, and learned a lot. It was a unique experience. That, plus the gold bug biting, enticed me to buy the detector. I plan on using it mostly for gold, but maybe a little relic hunting mixed in.

I'll be using this forum to learn.
