ACE 250 Coil gone bad?

Thanks to everyone here who tried to help diagnose the problems I've been having with my detector. I kept tinkering with it. It would work fine when it was first turned on, but within a few minutes it started going berserk. I finally called Garrett and Sue immediately said it sounds like a bad coil. Hope to ship it off this afternoon.

Has anyone else had a coil just go bad? With very little use by the way... What exactly could have gone bad on a coil? I thought they were fairly durable. Either way, looking at a $100 repair bill before I can get out there with it. Kinda rough on a newbie...

Mountain, You can find brand new 9x12 coils for $85.00 with free shipping on Ebay. The sniper coil is even less. Beats a $100.00 repair bill.
