I know, I deserve a cookie. LOL, but I was out in the field yesterday and the machine made a weird noise and then went silent and wouldn't detect. Then I got it to work for a while. This morning I got it to work for a while and then it made the weird noise and died. I couldn't get it to work again. It is a Micronta Discovery 2 and I bought it back in 1996. It has more than paid for itself with finds. I took it apart and what I noticed was that one of the wires for connecting to the 9v battery had become disconnected. I wired up a new one of those and now it appears to work great! The downside is now I don't have a good excuse for telling the wife I need to buy a new one.
