In the case of the original plat maps for my area, which were done around 1838, a lot has changed. Road beds, property lines and a lot of vanished land marks.

But these plats are very much in accordance with the modern twp lines and sections because those were modified on the original plats as they evolved to stay updated with the formation and reformation of counties and towns.

They'e not always exactly on target, but good enough for us locals to find some of those spots noted in the original plats.

I have gotten old map plot maps from th mid 1800's and today maps and line them up and I can figure out where stuff is at. Just make sure they are the same area it gets pretty easy after you done it a while....Matt
