WAND REPAIR

Apparently Compass metal detectors have once again gone out of business. The lower rod of my wand is broken; the part where the plastic rod from the coil meets the upper metal rod. It snapped off.

Since I can't get a new lower rod, any suggestions as how to repair.

I doubt if epoxy would hold. A hose clamp doesn't work.

Would a length of PVC pipe work?

Gypsy has a great idea !! It would glue to the lower plastic shaft and you can drill a hole at the upper end of the pvc through the metal shaft also. Then run a bolt through the drilled metal shaft end holeand put on a washer and nut. That would anchor it to the metal shaft. You could do the same at the plastic shaft end also. But there use a nylon bolt and nut you can get at home depot.
If it's ugly looking, you can then shrink wrap it to hide it. HH

In most cases, since there is so few parts left with the factory being closed, most folks simply turn the lower rod around and order a new plastic tip (Isolator Tip is what it is called) from us and super glue it in the opposite end of the lower rod and keep hunting, looks just like the orginal. We stocked up on isolator tips for the Compass lower rods years ago and have them in stock. Have helped lots of folks keep hunting. Do have a few lower rod assemblies left, but most are different colors like green instead of gold. Simplier and cheaper to order the new Isolator tip and glue it in the opposite end of the rod.
