Re: Which Pinpointer to chose???
The Vibraprobe 580 is a very good pinpointer!! Uses vibration only. Won't draw attention to yourself at a park like other pinpointers that use audio signals. It is waterproof to 30 feet. No switches to break and has automatic shutoff after a minute of not being used. Just tilt the pointer upward to activate it. Sensitive only at the tip rather than the entire shaft. Great features there!

Re: Which Pinpointer to chose???
Garrett. Garrett. Garrett. And it has other uses. Electrician needed to tear into my plaster ceiling but forgot a stud finder. Out came my Propointer and the beams were located in seconds. Right when I bought the Propointer I tried it on my walls and against the Bullseye, Centec and Automax pinpointers I had. Only the Garrett could locate the nails in the stud. The other three couldn't even when I placed them right on the spot where the Propointer said the nail was. I figure I saved enough on the electrician bill to cover at least 1/2 the cost of the pinpointer.

Thank you for all the stuff I find, I really appreciate the coins, toys, junk jewelry, old bullets, and all the other neat stuff I find, I try not to complain and cuss when I find pulltabs, foil, and other garbage, and I try REALLY hard to be nice to people who irritate me. I only have one complaint, I have yet to find gold and it's been a year now!

Re: Which Pinpointer to chose???
I have a Cen-Tech, a White's Bullseye II, and a Garrett.
I like the ability to switch from sound to vibrate with the White's. Practically have to touch a zincoln to get a response, better on copper pennies and quarters, about half an inch, does well on dimes and nickles.
But, The Cen-Tech has greater range, but quality poor by comparison to either of the others and it only has sound, very noisy, at least it can be heard. It will alert at around 1 1/2 - 2" on a single quarter, about 3" on several coins close together, about an inch on a copper penny, about a half inch on a zincoln. It is the least comfortable to use.
The Garrett, my latest, is easily my favorite, much better range than either of the others, and the response intensifies as it gets closer to the object, not fond of having both vibrate and sound at the same time though, will have to tape over the speaker hole with thick electricians rubber tape. Alerts at about 2-3 inches on a quarter laying flat. It is the most comfortable to handle, and I would prefer a momentary switch instead of off/on, I think. Might change my mind on that, since it sounds an alert if left on. Want to figure out a way to tether it with some device that retracts the tether, like the old key chain devices. It would be nice if they all had a recessed eye for such an attachment. Also, the Garretts does not require balancing, it's automatic.
The White's has the best LED light, followed by the Cen-Tech, trailed by the Garrett Pro. That's my 2 cents worth on the probes I have used.

Re: Which Pinpointer to chose???
I put electrical tape over my ProPointer speaker hole, not only to dampen the sound, but also to protect the speaker hole from mud/dirt/water. If you leave your headphones on (as I do), even just one layer makes it quieter than I prefer. I took it off that day and run it like it is.
Dig it up.....you'll always wonder what is was if you don't!

Re: Which Pinpointer to chose???
Centek has a mod somewhere on this board to add a vibrator.
Still doesn't work well as a pry bar. But is cheap.
I like the (?) that increases noise/vibes the closer you get.
Just can't afford one right now.

I'm still using the Vibra Probe that I purchased used about 6 years ago. I'm sure that much better ones are available now, but I'm so used to the Vibra Probe, I don't think I'd be happy with anything else. There are no switches..you simply point it up in the air to turn it on and it turns off automatically after about a minute of inactivity. This is great because there's no moving parts to get sand and dirt in and It's completely waterproof. I find that it's got pretty decent depth as well. I've been considering upgrading to an inline unit (is it the Sunray?), but the Vibraprobe has been such a workhorse, that I may just buy another one.
On this subject, does anyone know if the inline probes mess with your detectors operation? I just worry that there are too many electronic doohickeys too close together. What do the techies say on this?

I wanted to start a new thread to give a great big shout out to Whites and to Garretts on their excellant customer service but since u guys r on the topic.....I had the Whites Bulls Eye and was completely satisfied with it but was inactive a few years so on the shelf it sat. The bug bit me again a couple of months ago so i dust off my mxt and the Bulls eye but only the pinpointer light comes on no beep. Oh misery! Off to Barbees md shop in Burlington NC ( nice guy ) he doesn't sell my bullseye any more......ok.....a Garretts Propointer....ok....I love it ,works great until I have too much gear in my arms loading up and the holster turns upside down. I swear it's a good thing there r no bridges in walking distance of the house! I box them suckers up usps. Back to Burlington yet another Propointer life is good. About 4 days later, Fedex pulls up with with a new Bullseye 2. I wasn't expecting Whites to do that,WOW! Two days later brand new Propointer shows up the same way,WOW!

Pistol Probe is going to be the strongest, Garrett is real good choice but if your going to be in any water definetly go with vibra probe 580 or even the quatic 2 if you dont think its to big

If u get the propointer keep it in the box it came in. The holster that came with it is great but if u get it turned upside down it will fall out. Thats how I ended up with 2 of em. The box also acts as an insulator if left in a hot car. Your dog has to chew thru the box before he gets to the real money. Once your gear is on then holster it.Reverse when u get back to your car. When it beeps back off an inch...turn it off then back on then you'll be dead on target. Hold your thumb over the beeper port for almost silent operation.
