Laws in Mexico on detecting

Hi folks,

I'm on my way to Cancun this winter and would like to bring the detector along to work the tourist beaches. I'm new to this so what's your opinion on doing so and is there anything I need to know about to do this?

Somebody ask that question last week here or on another detecting forum and people in the know said if you stay where the tourist are at you'd be OK. It's when you get out by yourself somewhere that you might run into some trouble no matter whether it was legal or not where you were detecting. They were saying you never know when you might run up against some of the Mexican police there that make the laws up as they go for American's.

This is just a guess but I'd say a Mexican Prison could be a little rough on an American Tourist.

Remember, keep your back to the wall and don't pick up the soap! Oh I forgot, they don't use soap down there. Anyway, just keep a watch on your backside.
