Wherever there's no specific verbage saying you can't. If you see no park or city rules forbidding detecting, then ....... presto, I guess it's not disallowed? But of course, use obvious discretion in your timing and image. We are in an odd hobby that draws the stares of the curious, has connotations, etc....

Whatever entity owns the site/location your thinking of (city, county, state, utility, etc...) will often have a web-site. And on there, will be the municipal codes, and often sub-categories for park's dept. rules, etc.. (eg.: "park closes at sunset, no dogs allowed", etc...). If it says nothing about detecting, then ......... there ya go!
