I don't think this thread is still active, but Soldier Creek in Fort Dodge is pretty cool. It used to be a dump site, I've found bottles from the 1860's coins from the late 1800's too. However my spot is a secret but there's the clues for you.

    Metal Detecting
So I live in Ankeny and have been since moving from Ft. Dodge in 1974. I have a Whites M6 and now just ordered a Equinox 600. I can find no restrictions against metal detecting in Ankeny or on school grounds. So I am assuming with a little bit of common sense and making sure you cover your holes.... its all ok?
