Pinpointer? ??
Ok I'm relatively new to the hobby so forgive me if this is an ignorant question. Found a good deal on a pair of Garrett Proscan II on CL. I know they are designed for security scan type work, but my question is can they be used as a pinpointer as well?

It's dangerous to be right when those with a thimbleful of perceived authority are wrong.
It CAN, but I would steer clear of it. You want something with a small "probe-like" tip and specifically designed for it.
If you are on a very limited budget, Harbor Freight makes one that is less than 20.00 It is made by "Cen-Tech"

While not especially robust, they work quite well and will do the job.

While I am sure it would "work", I think it would be a little big for probing work.
