Info on Bounty Hunters?
I would love to have your comments on the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. I have a friend who has one of those machines and wants to go detectin' with me. Is it really a decent machine? I know Radio Shack sells it, so immediately alarm bells go off in my head. Evidently she hasn't become that familiar with it yet, and I don't know anything about the machine (I'm a tried and true Fisher user now for 14 years). Thanks in advance folks.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
My first detector was a bounty hunter. It was also the last bounty hunter I will ever own. The thing was a piece of junk and i sold it for $20 just to get rid of it. Buy a whites, minelab, tesoro OR fisher.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
I have no problem finding coins with my BH, and it is way down there in terms of price, an 1100 model. I'm getting something better very soon, but in the meantime this machine has proved itself. Might not go too deep, but it signals reliably. I'll probably have an Ace 250, but I'll keep my BH around for anyone who's willing to dig with me.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
Some of the BH's are made well and will hold up if your careful. Most that have them all trade up as soon as they can. The way I look at it is if you are just starting out and don't know if your going to continue, you can start cheap and move up. However, in doing that you also don't know if the detector is really any good and you don't realize the time you've wasted till you get a real detector or a upper model BH.
The Ace 250 is a great machine for the price and good for newbies or old timers that don't wanna fool around with all the buttons. Personally I like buttons, meters, modes, and even different coils. About the only thing that turns me off to a detector is fancy decals of teeth, fangs, lighting bolts, etc.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
I started out with a BH and loved it. It was really great on deeper signals...and I still will grab it once and a while to double check a hole. It really was fantastic on alot of my earlier finds so I have no gripes about it at all. Just learn the tones!@
I go a great distance, while some are considering whether they will start today or tomorrow

Thanks for the info, folks. I just wanted to get a sense of what to expect if I took that friend along. Sounds like I should be careful not to show her up too badly then. Well...maybe just enough to get her hooked

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
I've owned a couple (QDII), they found a lot of stuff for me and they satisfy the itch immediately because you can easily pick one up at your local Walmart. However, if you can wait - I'd spend the $ on the Ace 250, you don't hear much negative feedback from 250 owners.
Remember though, those Ace 250's (like other cheaper models) are stamped out like coca-cola on assembly lines, very little (if any) human contact and attention to details are involved in their production.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
The Ace 250 is a Garrett not a White's. They are also not "stamped" out. If you can, check out the show "Made In America" where they did a piece on Garrett metal detectors and you will see there was some hands on assembly on the Ace 250.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
My first metal detectore was a Micronta Discovery II from Radio Shack for $200. I found a lot of coins with it plus some jewelry. A few months ago I bought a Bounty Hunter 505 for $278 from Walmart. It has target ID and depth of target. I have already found loads of coins and several pieces of jewelry. I love it.
If I bought a $900 detector I would still be paying for it and I would be worried about dropping it or taking it out in a light rain, or getting stolen for that matter. If my current metal detector dies, walmart is pretty good about giving your money back. If you buy a $900 detector are they going to give you your money back? If it malfunctions are they going to insist that you send it back so it can be repaired? How long will that take?

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
My first detector BH pioneer 505. Just got it in July at walmart. IT did ok, but it was driving me nuts. I recently traded and got a fisher CZ-6A. Huge difference. There are a lot of good detectors out there I am told. I have only tried 2. But I gotta say to do it over again I would not buy a Bounty Hunter again. I do have a friend that has an older Bounty Hunter. Much older. It is a pretty good machine.
But my BH beeps all the time. Falsely alot. I have to go over and over stuff. You can't run the coil over anything barely sticking up at all without beeps.
Can't begin to tell you how happy I am to be detecting with another machine now.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
I still have a BH Big Bud, which I keep as a back up, but seldom use it. I prefer my whites Speactrum. I will say though, that I have done well with it. As for the newer BH, I can't say that I would buy one.

Re: Info on Bounty Hunters?
I have both the Ace 250 and the Discovery 3300. The 3300 beats the 250 hands down. Better depth, better pinpointing and its light. It does eat batteries, maybe 5 hours a set. I guess I got a good one judging by the
bad rep they have on this site!
