What were you using before? Not knowing where you're hunting and the ground conditions it's hard to give exact settings. If it's like my SoCal beaches, I leave the discrimination off, volume about 1/4 the way, threshold with just a slight hum (it will change pitches occasionally which is normal) and just run it flat out. Dig every sound on the beach until you get used to the "real" junk sounds and maybe not even then. It doesn't take much to scoop a target on the beach. I don't even use the pin point knob unless I get a real Houdini signal. Carry your scoop over your shoulder or drag it behind you as you get it anywhere near the detector, it will sound off. I hip mounted mine as it's a bit on the heavy side and can cause arm fatigue....especially in the surf.
