Im interested in this as well, as i just got an atpro, and i would love tips on rivers and creek bed digging.

Welcome to Tnet! Without a water detector, I wouldn't recommend hunting rivers and creeks. You're just one slippery rock away from ruining your detector. As you found out, it's not easy to recover target there either. Get a detector with good descrimination so you can decide what to dig and what to pass up on. A big screw driver or pry bar is handy on those rocks along with a small trowel. If you're into sand or silt, use a sand scoop.

It really depends on exactly what the bottom material is. Different materials, different tools. It takes a lot of work, plan on getting very wet and dirty.

Check out "aquachigger" videos on youtube! He does tons of creek and river detecting. He now uses an AT Pro mostly.
