Ok......here's a question......I notice you guys call Modern dimes "Rosie's".....is this because of the rosey color they turn in the ground?

They are called Rosie's because Roosevelt is on the dime.

I remember a while back seeing a thread regarding your question. There was a whole list of terminology. Not sure if it was here or another site. Try search your question here for commonly used MD'ing terms

Thank you very much! Don't worry bout corruption from "that" show, lol. I have never watched it nor do I intend to. I am certain this forum and experience are all the help anyone needs. Thanks again. The people here are very quick to share the wealth of knowledge!

Happy Hunting!

most of the terms you will see from long-time detectorists is either a short-hand or a funny descriptive. "Rosy" = a Roosevelt dime. "can slaw" = shreaded aluminum cans, "zincoln" = post 1982 Lincoln memorial cent made from 99% zinc with a copper coating.

There are all kinds of slang terms used in detecting. Some are local only and some are universal. The age and how long someone has been detecting can show up in the terms they use. Here are some of the terms I've heard used......
Zincolns, zincs, zinc'ers for '82-up cent coins.
Memorials, for '59-82 cent coins
Roosie's, '46-up dimes
Merc's, 1916-45 dimes
slaw, shredded can
stew, melted can
screamer, high conductive, high pitched tone indicating silver
groaner, low conductive, low tone target that might be gold.
phantom, a once good signal that now cannot be found.
I'm sure there are others I will remember after I post this. Feel free to add your own!:laughing7:

Wow, thanks for that address! I'm reading it and thoroughly enjoying it. The only thing I can add for other beginners is to follow the link on it on the lower left that shows "Secrets for Beginners". It's a wealth of information! Thanks again and kuddos to you for sharing!
