My spoils consisted of four pennies, one dime, one matchbox car, one spoon, a few I don't knows but it was fun getting out and just seeing what all was hidden beneath the ground. I can say that I am hooked I do believe. I do have one question though if anyone would have any suggestions, I found something that looks like it could be a coin. The only thing is it is crusted with what seems to be rust, I was wondering what I could use that would strip away the junk and leave what ever it is beneath.

Good first outing!

There aren't too many coins that will rust. At least not US. You can remove the rust with Evapo-Rust. It' water based and won't hurt the metal, Naval Jelly, basically acid and will eat the metal too, so you have to monitor it closely. Or, electrolosis (using electricity) which is explanined on here, if you search. Evapo-Rust is probably the easiest.
