I bought this metal detector back in about 1996. I used it for a few years, dug a bunch of trash and got discouraged. I sold it to a friend of mine that has his own fence contractnig company. He used it to find property boundry markers. Well, since I got back into detecting and have been sharing my AT Pro with my daughter (meaning she detects, and I dig...), I got my old detector back from him today. So, one of us (me) can use it.

Pretty amazing the difference between the old and the new. Of course the AT Pro was a lot more expensive. The old one is a White's Classic SL. I think I paid around $300 for it way back then.

I did a depth comparison between the 2 and the White's has about 1/2 - 2/3 the depth of the AT.

I'm confused.......... So what your saying is, if the AT Pro went 8 inches, the Whites only went 4-6 inches on the same object? If so, there must be a problem with the Whites.

Yes, that is what I'm saying. The White's is old, with a smaller coil, and was a less expensive model. Could be I need to play with the settings, but there are only 2 settings, Discrim and Sensitivity.

Wow, People complain about Bounty Hunter having no depth! I always thought most all Whites had good depth, I guess that isn't so. I consistently get 7-8 inches plus(depending on size and type of metal), with my RS Discovery 3000(aka Sharp Shooter II w/volume control).

I had an old Whites S63TR from the 70's and it would find coins down to 6". I don't know the bottom on coins with my 12 year old XLT but it did find a license tag at close to 2'. My Whites Surfmaster PI will go down over 2'. That Coinmaster should go 6" at least. Frank...

It was about 6 inches when I checked with coins. Then the signal got pretty weak.
