Our local town is going to replace all the sidewalks on Main street this spring . Do I need to get permission to medal detect after they rip the old ones up ? I figure I'd do it in the evenings when the workers have gone home for the day . I got an ACE 250 for Christmas and I am anxious to clean up the stuff before it gets cemented over for the next fifty years .
Here are a few early pics Main street .

The answer is yes, seek permission. If you're told no, hunt it anyway....ask for forgiveness! And why wait until the crew goes home?! I'm not suggesting that you swing right under their feet but, to be behind the crew, out of harms way would be OK by me. I think by hunting while they are working sends a clear message, the citizens own the sidewalk and perhaps you will be percieved as one who sought and was granted permission.

I don't the think the penalty would be any worse if you were caught with or without permission, even if it were obvious that you were the one that asked for the right but were denied.

I'm of the opinion that if you pay taxes in that town, get some of it back.
