I have a Whites xlt with the factory coil and a 600 coil. I would like opinions on what a good third coil would be. Mostly I search parks and 100yr old plus yards. Just looking for something that may help me not miss so many targets. The 5th time I went over my yard i found a 1917 mercury dime that i missed 4 times. Either I'm doing something wrong or my factory coil is missing targets.

Maybe it's ok? Maybe there was just a dime sized gap in your sweep pattern?

Can't imagine Whites sending out a bad coil? High quality stuff right there bro! I wanted a F75 so bad a few weeks ago- but I've been eyeing the whites line a lot!

Anyway, could it have just been your swing? I know my swing needs a lot of work, but I'm still new to this. Overlapping etc. I dunno, it's something to consider, though. Is it at all possible you didn't swing over it? Or maybe had it scrimed out by accident?

I have a whites mxt 300 I have a eclipse 5.3 high trash coil I went ahead a purchased with the mxt I love it. They say it loses depth but I have dug some deep targets and I can pinpoint these amazingly we with the coil. Hope this helps good luck

You have a good setup that I've used in the past also. There can be many causes for missing a target but it's not likely your machine or coil unless you're at the depth limit of the detector. Trash, ground conditions, and sweep method are the most likely causes.

I have been to many places multiple times when I run out of new spots. It still blows me away to this day how many times I can swing over the exact same area and still pull out more good targets. Ground moisture also makes a big difference on your target depths. Has it rained in that spot recently?

Thanks everyone for your input. I have only had the xlt for about 2 months. Probably just getting more used to it. Also trying different settings. Put the sensativity up to 92 when I found the dime. Also trying to slow down and overlap a little.

Have you gone back over any spots with the sef that you already hit with one of the other coils? Would like to know how it compares because I was thinking about getting one.

Yes i have ah actually a couple spots cuz I wanted to b positive i went to a spot that really ive hammered with various machines & when I was using the 10dd the v3i came with poped on the sef like a new spot to me now in my opinión everyone does & will have there own for me the sef's r like the dd coils on steroids better depth, seperation, better with EMI,good in iron but all in all i have been to a couple same spots and tried to get as close as i was to when I had the dd on & I was pullin out more items I went through kellyco witch is the only company authorized to sell the sef (detech) coils they all came from Bulgaria & they did there home work. Mine was sent right out the next day with emails to prove so & Roberto Morales over there have me a great deal cuz im a tnet member so befor ordering email first

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it's worth investing in one...now to convince the wife. If I would find a nice ring that would be much easier...lol

Here is the scoop from someone that has been using the XLT for about 15 years. My latest is 12 years old, lost the first in a fire. I search 200 year old yards and have pulled relics from 10". I use it with the stock coil. In the last yard I hunted last summer, it found a 3ct ruby /gold ring. There is an old saying in detecting" Nobody gets it all". You can go over a yard many times and still find targets. Here's a tip for the XLT. It is a fast scan detector. If you scan it slow, you will cover targets. Just my experience with it. Frank...

So you're saying I should try swinging a little faster and see how that works?

Howdy Tim NEPA,
The XLT is a fine machine, lots of adjustability, lots of good user menus on the net and the White's site. The White's coils are good and I've never used any other brands on it. The SEF coils sound like awesome units and should you purchase on I would appreciate knowing what you think of it as compared to White's coils.

The attached picture shows my XLT with the coils I have for it. Have fun a best of luck with whatever you coil you purchase.....................63bkpkr

If a 950 from Whites will fit your machine, give it a try. I have found it to be far superior to the 10" dd, especially on small coins like silver dimes. I Really like it, I went back to the 10" dd for two days and then switched back to the 950 and haven't looked back. Better at pin pointing and discriminates better also. I am not that familiar with the xlt but the stock coil for it may be the 950, either way that's my favorite coil, I will be getting a sef 10x12 next though.

Ull like the sef series they r really nice & I keep my 2 sefs close but I find its got alot to do with location on What coil will best work in that location
