Depends on where i'm detecting. At the beach, i was hitting the low tide around 11pm - 2am. Low traffic as well. The light helps. Inland hunting, early morning till around 11am. No need for the light

My wife bought me a forehead l.e.d. light, so I was wondering, how many of you hunt at night?

I prefer land hunting right at dusk into the night in summertime to beat the heat and to be a little stealthy! I've had some negative opinions of my mding public parks from onlookers. It just seems easier not to have any confrontations with general public about it and have it banned altogether. I have only beach hunted once at night but really enjoyed the empty beach and lack of sunburn.

Just remember the night crawlers come out late and not all of them are worms or crabs. Stay aware of who's surrounding you and stay safe! Happy hunting

i have done it a couple times fortunatly the v3i has a backlit screen but a also saw something online where another guy had just put a peice of velcro on the shaft of his detector the a peice on a small flashlight pointing right at the coil lit the entire coil area up really well

Yes you are right there ER. I had 2 kids walk right by me as I had let my guard down and lowered my left earmuff down since I was in a company park way out of the way of any people walking through. I usually keep it up to hear what's going on around me. They startled the BeJesus out of me and could have mugged me as easily as just passing by. That brings up another question of whether or not to pack heat? I really don't want to but may do it at night.

I have hunted almost exclusively at night during the spring summer and fall months for many years now. I currently have a second shift job and get off work at midnight, so I'll go soon after I get off work and stay out until sometimes 5 or 6 in the morning. The main reason being that during those months in the daytime the parks around here are pretty crowded, so I go at night, also it's usually cooler too. I don't use a light at all, my eyes get used to the dark and I am able to see well enough to see where I'm going and where I'm digging, and also I don't stand out as much as I would with a light!! I do have a headlamp with a red light in it with me in case I absolutely need to see something but I rarely use it.

Yes I don't use any light except the one on pro pointer while recovering targets. I keep a headlamp on my head sometimes or flashlight on my side for backup. Keeps the curiosity down around you and allows you to see others if your not so engaged in target you miss them ( as I did recently)!

Couldn't suggest packing heat no stronger than a small pepper spray but then again I live in Texas where CHL's are a guessing game if a stranger approaches with ill intent LOL

I like to have a small led headlamp at night. Pro pointer also has a helpful small led light. It is too Damn hot during the day now. Go around dusk and hunt till 11 or so. But like people say, make sure to check out your surroundings often.
