It depends on your actions after submersing the detector in salt water. Did you immediately remove the batteries and flush the detector with fresh water? Did you then dry it with a hair dryer? If so, it may well be salvageable. If, on the other hand, you let it sit for any length of time, it's probably toast, and you would be better off shopping for a water proof unit.
i have tried it and all it does is buzz for a second the die. it needs to be overhalld regardless. So you haven't actually fired it up after the incident? I'd dry it out and give it a try. What have you got to lose?
I took my detector, i packed it in a box and sent it to whites. I will admit, it looked a little rough, black tape and gum hold it together, wires and old switches hanging out. Dents and the coil hanging from a string. 2 weeks later i got a call , she said, we fixed it. A little concerned about the price, i asked, whats the damage, she laughed. do you mean to the detector or your wallet. With shipping $140. I paid the $140 bill and thought , waa hoo. I went hunting in the mountains for 2 weeks without my trusty mxt for the first time in 10 years. When i got back there was a box from whites waiting for me. I was shocked when i opened it. They did not fix it at all, no gum no dents no wires , no tape. Clearly all they did was take a new one off the shelf and put it in the box and send it off. waahoo I have a lead on a bag of gold coins that a family has searched for for 70 years and some gold nuggets to look for. Wish me luck?
i would send to Whites. They have excellent customer service. I would be surprised if they couldn't fix it and if you like your MXT as much as I do, you will be pleased in the endI would like to get it fixed, I took it home right away and took it apart and sprayed it with contact cleaner, it is very clean inside. it could be just the plug in, i didnt take the plug out. it was off when it got wet and i took out the batteries right away.
I'll try find a whites dealer near me in B.C.
