I was just wondering how all of you go about finding CW sites to metal detect. I haven't had trouble locating some French and Indian War sites, but I would really like to find a CW site or two near, but I don't know where to look? I am within 20 miles of the Mason-Dixon Line, so I'm almost certain there had to be some activity in my area.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
Elijah

The internet is your best way to find sites. Start by searching for civil war in your area. You can google civil war maps, diaries, OR records and much more. I just found a site yesterday by reading a diary I found online. It told how the Federals took position at a farm house (it listed the owner of the farm house). The battle took place in a large field in front of the house. It took some time but I finally found the owner of the farm house and now I just have to get permission. Research is so much fun and very rewarding once you get the permission and find stuff.

I have tried google searching the civil war in any reference to PA, and the only thing I can ever find is Gettysburg, Gettysburg, Gettysburg, like its the only thing that ever happened here. I guess I'll just have to keep on searching and hoping.

I hope your new site works out for you, it sounds like a killer spot.

About 60 miles south-east of Pittsburgh, maybe 20 miles north of the Mason-Dixon Line, Somerset County. I greatly appreciate your help.
