I found two (1913, 1918) dog tax tags when I lived in el paso. Very cool looking. Wish I had a pic of them.

Got a local one from the 1890's somewhere here in Lowbatts Local Lore Museum. Found it under a sidewalk a couple years back near a hotel tag from the same era and a beat up seated lib dime. I recall it was a cool day of digging!

I just posted this pic in the What is it section of the forum...

I found this at an old home site in NM. Near it I also found an 1896 V-Nickel and alot of old glass and other metal things which lead me to believe the site was from around the early 1900's.

Anyway, I was told this is the "Dog Catchers" badge...kinda cool. Is it worth anything?

It says PACIFIC HUMANE SOCIETY S.F. CAL. along the outer circle and SPECIAL 1390 OFFICER in the middle.

Hi Free2Detect: I was offered $250 for mine. I haven't sold any of my finds SO FAR! Being retired and on a fixed income, I just might in the future. Jim

Here's a question for you guys.

Where abouts do you find these tags? Are they found in particular areas of the country? States? Or were they all over the country in those days? In other words, could I expect to find any of these in Florida if I'm lucky?

Well Jeff after I found the first one (a 1888) I just tossed it in my junk box. Then I found another one a year later (the 1883) and did some research to find out what they were. Someone told me the crown looked like the Kingdom of Hawaii crown and it possibly could be a dog tax tag. I sent pics to a collector of tags who confirmed them as such. She told me she has two and would like to buy mine for her collection. She never did tell me what she was willing to pay for them. So now they are in a display with three other tags I found in the same place, a 1941, 1946, and a 1955 (made after the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy).
I'll post a pic when I get the chance.
