It's certainly not normal to find a buffalo nickel that isn't black or red.

I have a discovery 2200 and just ordered a Garrett AT Pro. One of my dads friends gave me the 2200 and said he never used it. An older gentleman told me where an old general store used to be on the corner near his house. The weird thing is I've been over there about 5 different times and I seem to find different coins right beside where I had dug the day before. Can anyone tell me why I didn't find all the coins in one day... All of the silver coins were found in a radius of about 5 feet. I don't see why the detector didn't pick them up the first day. Setting and discrimination was all the same

Mr Helton, it was very dark red, all I could tell about it when I dug it was that it was the shape of a nickel. I dropped it in vinegar and hydrogen peroxide and then scrubbed it with an SOS pad and it turned out like this. Lots of scrubbing!! I did this with the V nickel too.

1943-1945 Nickels are 35% silver. Some 1942 nickels are also......need to have large mint mark on the back at top center of coin

It can be your hunting style ie. swing speed, overlap, and grid pattern. Slow is always better with good amount of overlap. Also some targets may have been masked out from one direction, but picked up from another. Looks like you're off to a good start! HH

You got a virgin area, lots of old stores only know about by locals out there, keep it up, you might find a cache out there somewhere.

Like Crackbadger said, you found a site that hasn't been hunted before. It's normal to find items like that there. In a public park that's been hunted a lot, it's very uncommon to find coins like that in a two week span these days.

The 1943 wheatie almost looks copper. I am sure it is not, but it supprises me it didn't turn into a rusted slug

Do you check your holes again after you've recovered an item? As someone posted, sweep in every direction, not just one way. A more conductive item or one more shallow could have masked those targets. Goes to show return trips are a good idea.
