With a detector or eyeball? Trash in both cases and lots of nails with the detector.

Remember things cost lots less back then and not a lot of money was carried unless you were going to town for supplies. However once in a while a coin was lost and then they could have looked for it for days. Just because you think the foundation dates to 1890 doesn't mean someone from an earlier time couldn't have been on the property. Expect anything and enjoy even a thimble or marble.
