So today it is supposed to rain around here in Southern California and I've always wanted to experience this kind of detecting. There shouldn't be very many people especially since it's around one on a Wednesday so that will be a plus! Also the moisture will aid with carrying the signal along deeper. Is this all that it's cracked up to be or am I just getting myself into being wet? It's an old park where I've found a 1914 wheatie so I'm hoping that today will yield my very first silver.

I think you're just going to get wet. It takes a while for the water to soak into the ground and improve conductivity. A day after a good soaking is usually much better than the day of the soaking. Plus, you don't get as wet and muddy doing it!
