Hunted the field that produced the 1803 Large Cent last weekend and for two hours, I walked around in the cold, wet, wind with nothing to show for it except for some mystery metal and a Whatzit. I had had all I could take and decided to walk a line that was a couple hills (rows) over from the line I found the cent. About 30 feet I got a jumpy signal and decided to dig it. Well, I pulled this little fella from the hole. I didn't realize it was gold gilted and marked until I got it home and cleaned it up a little under some running water. The Wheatie came about 10-15 feet away as I was walking out to the truck.
