I started a list today of all the Metal Detectors I have owned over the years. I knew that there had been a lot but never really thought about how many. So far my number is 25 !! There may be more that I have just forgotten about. I wish I had the list price off every one of those so I could buy me a better car !!! My latest conclusion is that one of the oldest detectors that I have ever owned may just be the best. I think I will stay with it for a while and save my money !!! So let's hear it .. How many have you owned??

Been at it less than a year so only one so far. I figured I would spend a little more money than I really wanted to get an more advanced detector that I could grow into as I got more experience at this metal detecting hobby/addiction.

I think you made a wise decision. The 705 is a great machine and I really liked mine. It's probably one of the ones that I wish I had not sold or traded away. I upgraded to the Etrac and not sure that I gained a whole lot for my type of hunting. It's also very light and that's a plus for me !!!

Just starting my collection seeing as I have only been at this for about six months. Garrett ATP, Garrett ADS, Whites GMT (just sold it), Whites V3i, Tesoro Silver sabre, Excal 1000, Sov GT, and a Radio Shack in the 70's. There will be more...but not anytime soon. Gotta sell off another motorcycle first.

I have 3 going on 4. Plan on buying a new detector after I get home from Costa Rica in March. I love my ATP but want a new challenge.

I have learned so much on this forum. I try everything i read and then most often tweek what i have read. The most important thing i ever read was to keep your swings at the same speed and level from start to finish. There is definitely a sweet spot in the speed of your swing.

That is very true that sweep speed varies especially from detector to detector. The rule of thumb is low and slow but with some detectors that will not get the maximum depth. I had an older Whites machine that needed to be swung like a weedeater to get max depth. There are lots of little lessons we learn from experience, some that are general in nature and some detector specific. Each new machine produces it's own set of challenges (trust me, I've had plenty) but I also enjoy those challenges. Now if only I could afford it !!! Good luck with your new one !!!

I started in the eighties with a Whites 6000D series 2. When I got ahold of a DFX I stayed with it. I have had 4 machines over the years, all whites. I'm thinking of trying an ATPro, so I can get in deeper water. Hey it is all great !!! Happy Hunting!

I liked the DFX as well. Consistantly found good stuff with it. What do you think abput the new M5?
