I usually ask the lifeguards at the beach so far no problems. You could either call the Maine tourist bureau, or see if you can contact a detecting club in the area. HH!

First, I wouldn't ask the lifeguards.....or any other bureaucrat/politician/governmental employee. That would add their personal bias to the equation. Somebody here has probably already done the leg work on that. If not, I'd look it up myself so other people's interpretations and beliefs don't enter into it.

I haven't been in Maine for several years but up to 10 years or so ago there were no restrictions to MDing on public beaches. I had very good results at Old Orchard beach and also worked both long and short sand beaches in York. Since I lived there I rarely went during the summer months. October through spring you own the place.

Are you saying he may find rings not meant for a finger? Lol. Pretty sure I'd pack up the detector and head home!

Casper is correct, i drove through there one night as the bars were emptying out, had to do alot of explaining to my younger children that were in the car that night.

I've had no problems detecting short sands in York many a times.
