How do you get the older maps on google earth?

So I've been trying to do some research for older hunting grounds and just recently tried google earth, but it only goes back 20 years? Do I have to buy a better version? Iam using the free download. Thanks for all and any feedback. HH

historic aerial is great! google maps doesn't go back but so far. historic aerials will go back as far as pictures go and then to topo maps back to 1700's. I found long gone homes/farms around me using that. another great feature is you can split the screen that you can slide back and forth comparing one side current day (or any year available) to an older year available. click and drag the sidebar back and forth. great resource!
