Thanks. Been awhile since I've taken this amount of time to relax . Google earth shows some great spots . My buddy says the locals use a rake to clean beach and get some stuff but never anyone with detectors

thunder-struck, whenever someone who's not in this hobby says they "never seen anyone detecting at such & such a place", it doesn't mean much. Because people who aren't into this hobby, most likely simply don't mentally register such things. It's just not their bag, so they don't "register" such sites, or make mental note of it.

Example: One time I was hunting some school turf after school hours, when a gentleman approached me. Turns out he was a coach or some sort of staff at that school. Says to me: "you'll have to wrap that up in the next 30 minutes or so, because we have a little league game that'll be starting at 5pm today ..." Naturally I told him that ... sure, I'll wind it up within the next 30 minutes. But as he turned to walk away, he added the following post-script:

"you ought to do really well here, because no one's ever detected here before".

I asked him "how do you know that?", and he said

"because I've never ever seen anyone here doing that
".

What was odd was, this was the 1980s. And I KNEW FOR A FACT that the school had been routinely hunted, even as far back as the 1960s. It's the upscale older school in our town, and had always been the "go-to" place in those days for us locals. So as you can see, obviously, this person (even being a duly-appointed coach and school worker!) had simply never seen one before there.

And I've seen that same scenario played out many times, in various ways, in many places. Thus simply because someone says "no one's ever hunted here before", doesn't mean much, IMHO.

I know of one guy who hunts it on a fairly regular basis so you won't be the first! :tongue3:

Mark your friend must be invisible then. Because no one's ever seen him detecting :laughing7:

I don't imagine it's any different hunting a popular beach down there as it is here. During the day, there will be few, if any, detectors out on the beach. Go there at dawn or in the middle of the night at a low tide, and you'll see dozens. I wouldn't go there and do that alone though!

Regardless if you're the 1st or the 20th, it's a foreign country and you'll stick out like a soar thumb. Be careful, people might not hunt there because it might not be the safest place to be walking around with a pouch of rings and a 1000$ detector. Nothing against Brazil, but I'm sure it might be a little more intimidating than stepping off a cruise in the Bahamas or walking out a a resort in Mexico. Ask around a little bit more.

Good luck

Thanks guys for all the input . My friend has watched me hunt for the last 15 years and is one of those guys who is paying attention mostly due to my addiction to metal detecting he watches . Although I do agree that most people have no clue that anyone has been there at 4 am . I have heard the same input of no one ever detects here knowing this to be false . I don't expect to find virgin beaches but suppose each day with the change of tide and new people it may lead to new treasures . I m just so excited to go here . Most of my detecting in Canada has been diving at the beaches off of cliff jumping spots where most of the guys don't get to . Anyway I will post during and after trip for anyone interested . Mike

I would expect to find some bling, but I'd be scared shiltess in doing so. I would rather find little umbrellas in my glass, and littler bikinis nearby. Be careful and good luck.

I'm sure to look up often on those beaches as most of the treasure is on top of the sand . I'm doing sit ups now so I don't stand out too much lol . I ll post pics once I'm down there
