FYI - I have heard that its great under water, and on dry sand but no so good on wet salt water sand. Please keep in mind that I don't own or use one, but I have heard this from a couple of people. I would talk to Russ at RB detectors, he is a Fisher dealer who has done very well with the CZ21 and swears by it.

After posting this I did some searching and sounds like I'd be better off with the fisher cz20 or 21 model or ans Excalibur model for my needs.

That's true. The 1280X was a good machine in it's day but the others are better. The CZ21 is one of the best PI machines around. If you need or want discrimination, the Excalibur is the way to go.

For freshwater look at a Tesoro Tiger Shark.

The CZ21 is not a PI, it is a dual freq VLF and works in salt or freshwater.

So a couple members have told me to get a fisher cz21, since I'm lookin for a fresh water/salt water machine. I happen to come across the 1280x aquanaut. It says fresh and salt water, isnit really good in both. Is it worth picking one up since I can pick a new one up on ebay for 650.
If you do decide to pick up the 1280, hold out a bit. 650 is a little high. I just sold a brand new one on Ebay for under 400 which is probably about the right price range i think. For 650 you will be able to pick up a CZ 20 or 21 used and in good shape if you are patient. Good luck and HH.

On the 1280x you could get a better deal from a dealer here on tnet than on ebay.. Also the reason they say the 1280x does pretty good in salt water is for the frequency it runs on is , 2.4 kHz that is a low freq. … and makes it run good in salt water

Thanks guys, theres a few used cz20 and 21 on ebay but there in the upper 800 range. I've read so many reviews on the fisher models.my head is spinning. Lol some say the cz models r great for both types of water and some people say they r only.good for one or the other. Really want an excal but can't find any used one for a decent price. Heck I can't find a used fisher right now. Lol
