Hello I'm wondering if someone could help me out. I'm trying to locate a time capsule buried a few years ago by my older brother. It's buried in between 1.5 and 2 ft and about 6" in width and 8" in length, made of steel wrapped in a plastic bag.
I'm thinking of buying the whites tm 808 but I'm not sure whether it will detect below 3 ft, could someone confirm this or point me in the right direction.

Thanks

I think any machine over$200 should find it

I thought most metal detectors wouldn't detect over a 12 to 16 inches, but do you think the tm 808 would be able to detect at this level everything I've read says between 1 and 6 meters, is this just a rough guide or will detection only start at this depth, if so would just holding the device higher work?

VLF detectors won't detect a coin sized object deeper then 12 to 16 inches. But since you're looking for an object which is considerably larger. I concur any detector over 200 dollars ought to do it.

The TM808 should do the job.....a decent detector with a big coil should too as long as it's not deeper than 2 feet.

Can you rent one? Hire a local detectorist?

If that's the only reason you want a detector yes some equipment rental places carry metal Detectors just call around. I know the rental place by my house has some garretts for rent.

Tell us the area where you are located and someone here might offer to come help you locate it. I know if you are in the D-FW area, I would come help you look.

That must be a killer time capsule he buried if your willing to spend $800 to find it! How about the rest of the story?

Most of the rental machines I've seen available, were low-end ones. I'd be a little skeptical about their abilities for deep searches.

you could post on lostmystuff.net and someone nearby could help you rather than you purchase a detector for one time use.

I thought I posted a fairly simple sentence.....let me reword it. A regular, free member is not allowed to sell items on Treasure Net. You must pay a yearly membership to become a charter member which (among other things) will allow you to sell things.

If he would post where he is, there might be a member on here that would be willing to help him out.

Yes, it is....and at only $20/yr, it's a bargain too.
