What is a GeoMap? A GeoMap is a map that has GPS coordinates on it. Not only that but I just found that the USGS Historical Maps can be downloaded then opened with a GeoPDF Map Reader.

Here is the cool part, I have a Samsung Tablet that I opened a GeoPDF Map and activate the GPS and it actually shows your current position on the map! Now I am headed to find where houses and structures used to be in 1910 with my current position shown as though I was walking/driving down the street! I read that this is available for Ipad as well.

Here is a Screen Shot that shows my location(the blue dot) and the small black dots are houses or structures.
I can travel around this map in real time and stop by the dots to see if the structure is still there, the dashed roads are dirt roads, these interest me the most!

That's pretty cool a little high tech for me I usually just do my research then put my feet on the ground not being afraid to cover a lot of ground.
I'm sure it's great to mark waypoints of where certain things were found.
You'd probably really enjoy a Delorme atlas

Get the maps from USGS Historical Maps website.

I checked just now for my iPhone and found something called avenza PDF maps, would this be the iPhone equivalent ?

It is available for the iPhone it is called PDF Maps and from what I can tell it could be awesome. I have all ready downloaded some old TOPO maps from the early 1900's and can't wait to go find those old house places!! Like the threads above said it shows you where you are on the map!! Even the downloaded ones. Great piece of technology for is metal heads!!
