My favorite old wives tale is the one where a rat snake (or other harmless snake) is somehow magically interbreeding with rattlesnakes

You'd be surprised at how many people believe that because they're seen them on the Discovery Channel that they must be crawling every inch of the earth.

I'm more concerned of the two legged snake, that why I normally carry a 9 or a 45.

I don't run across snakes all that much, and I'm ALWAYS in the woods. But one day in NY I was looking for evidence of a 1700s house that was supposed to be in that area and 10 feet in front of me I see a huge snake - i'm not sure what kind though I don't think poisonous. It had to be 10 feet long! and it started to slither up the side of a large tree. Still, I never left the area, I just kept
an eye out for that guy just in case!
