So I received my E-trac yesterday (Thanks Bart for the super fast shipping!). The cuff on this model is a little bit odd in shape and a bit on the springy side. It actually flexes just a little bit. Coming from the AT Pro, it's not bad just different. I'm kind of wondering whether or not I should start using the strap over the top of the forearm. I never really used it with the AT Pro, mostly so that if I ever fell, I wouldn't be trapped into it.

Anybody out there use the strap?

On a side note, I finally solved the AT Pro lack of back-lighting issue. It's a pretty expensive light, but the one on the E-trac works really well.

I have an ATP and do not use the strap, but I do use a leash in the water most of the time. I cant get used to recovering any targets with the darned thing strapped onto my arm, so the strap is rather useless to me. Love the cradle but hate the strap.

I've used it both ways (and still do) Try it both ways and see which way feels the best for you.

I find in areas with bushes, tall weeds, and other types of brush, that strap makes it much more stable and easier to poke around in tight spots. At the beach, no strap works best for me along with the 15" WOT coil.

I personally can't stand the straps on mine. I dig too much and it's a hassle taking it on and off.

I've never liked a strap on any of my detectors so I don't use them. Not saying there's anything wrong with them, I just don't like them.

I found a good use for the strap on my AT Pro.
I cinch it up tight then put my elbow on top of the strap!
That way, it gives me a better (more balanced) angle
and the ATP isn't as nose heavy!

i could never get used to using the strap on my dfx. always seemed like a pain in the neck to get my arm out and back in, i dig almost every target.
