Is a used Compadre a good First Detector?

I'm a newbie in AZ and found a used Tesoro Compadre online for $100. I know I can get a new one for about $160, but am indecisive (the extra $60 could get me headphones or other needed accessories). Doing some research and comparing mid-priced machines, I think I'll eventually lean toward a Tesoro Outlaw or Garrett's AT Pro. But for now just wanted to get out there and start learning (even if it's only in my backyard). Is a used Compadre worth 100 bucks, or should I save my money and get something more sophisticated in a couple of months? Thanks so much for your expertise!!

In my opinion that's a big yes. Very basic, but capable for the money, and will always serve quite well as a backup or loaner if or when you upgrade.

If I found one for $100, I'd buy it. I let my daughter have mine. I have a Tejon and a Tiger Shark and I still miss that Compadre.

I bought a Compadre as a backup or loaner. No regrets.
