It was a ugly wet day today in Ohio and I had to drag myself out of bed...but it was about 45 degrees so I wanted to get some hunting in before the snow starts flying. I went to an older city park with some huge trees and found my first SILVER COIN !!!! It is a 1875 Seated Liberty dime and it looks to be in nice shape. I was thrilled when I pulled it out of the hole. I knew it was silver but thought it was from the 30s or 40s. I waited to clean it up until I got home and WOW this is so COOL ! I had 18 cents in clad and a bag full of pull tabs but I will now be hooked on this hobby even more. I think the winter is going to kill me. Thanks for letting me share :) I would post a picture but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. It has been a great day but now its time to head to work. Merry Christmas to me...and all of you as well.

My 1st silver was a 34 Merc, found in a park on Maui about 7 years ago. It was an old training area for the Army during WW II. Found it above the water line 3 inches down in sandy soil. Amazing how it survived so well in that salt environment. But I've yet to break into the 19th century like you've done. Congrats !!!

Hey Pinball we have a few things in common, I live not to far from you, my first silver was an 1875 seated dime. Good Luck in your future hunts, Today 12/24 is going to be in the high 50's to lower 60's, if you don't mind a little mud you should be able to get more detecting in this year.

That's one heck of a first silver coin. It took me years of digging up silver mercs and roosevelts before I finally found a seated.

Congrats on an amazing first silver! It takes most people a LONG time to find a seated coin.
